Commercial building Schürpf joinery
The Schürpf joinery's commercial building in Steinbislin is equipped with a comprehensive energy monitoring system. Energy flows are not only visualised but also optimised based on measurement data, making operations more efficient. If there is a surplus of electricity from the photovoltaic system, heating elements and charging stations are prioritised. Energy monitoring can also be used to measure and bill various consumption levels, making it an ideal solution for the commercial operation of the future.

Considering the building as an overall system
From the planning stage, it was clear that the Schürpf joinery building would be designed with the future in mind and for its entire service life. The integration of new technologies such as e-mobility and ramp heating was a key part of this vision. The design was centred around achieving an optimum utilisation phase that prioritized energy efficiency and comfort. The building and construction costs were also managed effectively, thanks to the implementation of holistic measuring points and a shared network that reduced the need for extensive cabling. The focus was on overall and shared utilisation in the areas of sanitation, heat generation, heat consumption, and air conditioning. The digitalisation aspect, exemplified by the ecocoach AG system, further underlines the potential for a comprehensive and comfortable solution.
New construction and living for the energy transition
Many extensive measurements are required throughout the business to optimise the self-consumption of the electricity produced. This is why there are more than 40 measuring points throughout the business. In addition to the joinery, the building also contains a bakery, a squash court, an office for an insurance agency, a doctor's surgery, an IT office and a flat in the attic. The many measuring points, measured and visualised by the ecocoach app, provide the opportunity to optimise ongoing operations and thus save costs.
«YOU CAN DO A LOT WITH THE KEY FIGURES OBTAINED BY ECOCOACH: MONITORING THE FUNCTIONALITY OF ALL MACHINES, EVALUATING SENSIBLE BATTERY CAPACITY AND MONITORING THE ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION OF THE PV SYSTEM.»
- RETO SCHÜRPF, MEMBER OF THE MANAGEMENT BOARD OF SCHÜRPF JOINERY
A passion for managing energy flows
Reto Schürpf, member of the Executive Board, is convinced of the benefits of renewable energies and the approach of optimising the use of self-generated energy and heat in the building. The PV system on the roof conjures up electricity from sunlight, which can be used in the building or for e-mobility as required. Ultimately, when it comes to energy supply, the decision favouring the green resource is only worth as much as the interaction allows. Thanks to the data collected, two significant energy optimisations have already been made: Firstly, the incorrect flap position of the surface system in the joinery was recognised immediately and secondly, the flow and return temperatures were optimally adjusted for maximum waste heat utilisation.
One tool for monitoring and billing
Another major advantage is that the same system not only includes monitoring, but also the billing function. This reduces administration costs, as billing can be created at the touch of a button. An additional extension of measuring points such as further charging stations, battery storage, UPS, peak shaving or reactive current compensation can be added without great effort. This means that the ecocoach AG solution can be expanded as required. The monitoring of the ecocoach app also fulfils a marketing approach: the visualisations of PV electricity, consumption, savings and much more are displayed at the entrance to the Schürpf joinery building. They are therefore accessible to the general public.
Control and regulation of the measuring points made easy
Depending on extraordinary production capacity utilisation, energy production can be adjusted manually, as the heating element is controllable. If, depending on the season, there is a lot of snow on the delivery ramp and delivery is difficult, the desired heating function can be set using the app. The heating can also be controlled from home in winter, for example, and can be switched on earlier or later depending on requirements. If too much waste heat is suddenly generated during production, this can be seen immediately in the monitoring app. Finally, the functionality of producers (e.g. heat recovery) and consumers (e.g. surface system) is always monitored at any time of day or night.
Can also be expanded with a stationary battery storage system in the future
Thanks to the system openness of ecocoach AG, a battery storage system can be integrated quickly and easily. This has great potential in the approach with reactive current compensation, the UPS option, and the approach of switching to a ZEV if the electricity purchase price is higher. According to Reto Schürpf, an investment in a battery storage system would therefore make sense in the future, also for the reasons mentioned above. However, he is considering investing in an expansion of the PV system, as the entire building requires a lot of electricity. However, the space for the battery storage system is there, as this was already planned from the outset.
A comprehensive system is the ideal solution
Sustainable building planning in the energy sector is correspondingly complex. Whereas in the past it was simply a matter of sockets, fuses and meters, today complex «all-in-one» systems are being realised. Sustainable properties think for themselves, produce electricity, regulate the heating and charge electric vehicles. This is precisely why Reto Schürpf is convinced and completely satisfied with the ecocoach AG solution. Based on the electricity from the photovoltaic system, the system optimally controls the energy flows and utilises them in the house and mobility. The energy concept from ecocoach AG controls the electricity flows and the building technology, thus enabling sustainable living. With the intuitive app, landlords and tenants always have everything under control. The ecoOneClick software enables comprehensive displays of energy flows and, based on this, well-founded analyses for investments, such as in an expansion of photovoltaic areas. Energy consumption can be specifically evaluated, visualised and billed at flat and property levels. The electric charging station is integrated into the overall system and ensures that the personal energy revolution also becomes a reality outside your own four walls. The ecocoach system has the concept of sustainability in its DNA, enables buildings to use a maximum proportion of renewable energy, and creates independence.
